So I didn't get around to actually wrapping my presents until Sat. night and I had meant to do it on Thursday and again on Friday.
Anyone that knows me knows that this is not that odd for me really. I have to be in the right mood to be productive about certain things and for some odd reason I feel the need to make sure my gifts are wrapped well. I just can't bring myself to do a slap-shod job. So I know I need to pay attention and it will take time and I wasn't feeling it until Sat. night.
This however turned out to be the perfect timing.
Why you may ask?
ahh well let me tell you...
VH1 Classic is running a series narrated by Dennis Hopper called the 7 ages of rock.
Each age is a separate 1 hour show about a different era of rock and roll and while wrapping I watched episode 4.
Why is this important you ask?
Because Episode 4 is the episode about Heavy Metal \m/ -_- \m/
Now I have a wide array of mixed feeling on this...
First off the show was pretty well done although I think they left some very important details out in the evolution of Metal but I understand the show is only an hour. They certainly did give the right amount weight to the contributions Black Sabbath and Judas Priest who are arguably the founding fathers of what we know of as Heavy Metal.
I did however have these horrible moments of saying not only am I watching metal on VH1 but it's VH1 CLASSIC my god I am old...
and then about 25 minutes in...
It happened....
They talk about the English New Metal Invasion and they gave credit where it was due.
IRON EFFIN MAIDEN!
That's right. I said it IRON EFFIN MAIDEN!!!!
They dedicated at least 12 minutes to this one band and just how influential they were. (ok so they then gave Metallica like 15 minutes but that is kinda fitting as well) And I sat there and nothing got wrapped for those 12 minutes. No coke got drank. No cat got pet..
I just sat there and rocked out and sang along... (yes i'm a geek. I am aware) and when it was over I had this horrible realization that while I own Iron Maiden CD's none of them are ripped.
If you recall my music project a few months ago,it had stalled out at H. I finished wrapping presents and watched a movie and then went upstairs to my office and found myself singing....
You guessed it, Iron Maiden.
So I got up, went down stairs grabbed more CD's and began ripping. I have been listening to Iron Maiden all day today and I am stunned at how I managed to go as long as I did without this band on my computer. I mean it is Iron EFFIN Maiden for christs sake.
Iron Maiden shaped me into the adult I became.
Iron Maiden gave me an appreciation for classics I never would have looked at twice.
Iron Maiden made me study history.
Iron Maiden made me read Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
Iron Maiden made me realize you could write songs about things other than girls, partying and violence.
So I have ripped all the CD's I have and have come to find that I am missing two of the CD's that are MUST HAVE's IMO.
Somewhere in Time and perhaps the Best album they ever did Powerslave. I will be rectifying this as soon as I get to BestBuy next.
So while I am saddened to realize I have gone years without listening to this band I must rejoice that they are now once again firmly on my lifes playlist and I have VH1 Classic of all things to thank for that. And why did I find myself watching this show?
Simply because I procrastinated getting my holiday wrapping done.
As I started saying
Procrastination if good for you.

Yeah, Maiden was my first exposure to the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, too. I think I only had three albums (Live After Death was the first one I got, then Powerslave and Killers). F'ing awesome.
